
NANS Impeach Mr Bamidele And Swear In Comrade Chidi Ilogede As New NANS President
The Senate of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has impeached the President of National Association of Nigerian Students, Mr. Danielson Bamidele Akpan. This was seen in a press release by the National Association of Nigerian Students Senate on Tuesday, October 13, 2020. The student legislative arm have also sworn in Comrade Chidi Ilogede, the Vice President of the association as the new NANS President with immediate effect.
The impeached President was impeached after a Committee set up by the NANS Senate found him guilty of misappropriation and diversion of students Covid-19 Palliatives and indicted him for financial impropriety. It is also reported that Mr Danison Bamidele Akpan fraudulently concealing information relevant to help the growth of NANS and abused his office by doing arbitrary and unlawful acts.
The impeached NANS president was also said to have violated the Code of Conduct of an official of NANS as enshrined in Schedule 3 of the Constitution and Charter of Demand of NANS and was also not remorseful despite being exposed that he had been caught.
It is also said that Mr Bamidele resorted to threatening the lives of members of the Senate Committee and that of the NANS Senate President Mr. Gambo Abu Mohammed;
The NANS committee set by the NANS Senate recommended that Mr. Danielson Bamidele Akpan should be impeached from office and expelled him from NANS with immediate effect.
It is said that the former NANS President had received huge sums of money from some government agencies including NNPC for students Covid-19 Palliatives and diverted the money which he denied.
NANS Senators as contained in Article 13 of the NANS Constitution voted out the impeached president via an emergency Senate meeting that was held on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 via the popular videoconferencing App, Zoom bringing an end to the two-and-a-half-year reign of Mr Bamidele as NANS president.
