There is no doubt that Nigerians were more disciplined during military rule than during the civilian government. The military government had to also possess strong leadership abilities in other to remain unchallenged. This enabled them to hold onto power for a longer time. Once the military government was challenged, they had to eliminate the challenge or lose the power if they could not do so.

Several infrastructures were developed during this period. Prices of contracts were not exaggerated as seen during the civilian rule. The military also moved Nigeria capital from Lagos to Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria. The military ensured that market prices were very strict. This prevented sellers from exploiting buyers by selling at exorbitant prices.
While discipline, control of corruption and general development are some of the advantages of the military rule in Nigeria, some of the disadvantages of the military rule include violation of human rights, neglecting education and no press freedom. Whichever way we look at the military, we can agree they also helped move Nigeria forward during their time leading the nation.
