Tyra Banks Breaks Silence After Old ANTM Videos Earned Her Backlash

Tyra Banks agrees that her some of her performances on America’s Next Top Model were insensitive.

Olisatv reported that folks dug up the model’s old videos from episodes of the modeling show in which she body-shamed young black women. In one of the clips, Banks tore down a black woman, mocked her gap-teeth, and told her she was not the kind of girl anyone wants to see on a magazine cover.

And that was not all; folks resurrected some of the harshest criticisms, bothering on the racist, that Banks and her panel of white judges perpetuated during the show.

Now, she has spoken up. “Been seeing the posts about the insensitivity of some past ANTM moments and I agree with you.  Looking back, those were some really off choices,” she said on Twitter, adding, “Appreciate your honest feedback and am sending so much love and virtual hugs.”

Hi, I'm Jadesola and if you've been here a while, you'll know that Ekomiami has always existed without a face. That changes now. I founded this platform in Lagos in 2018, originally as a space for entertainment and celebrity news. Over time and across continents my world grew bigger and so did my curiosity. Today, Ekomiami is what it was always quietly becoming: a home for travel, food, arts, and culture, told through the eyes of someone navigating the world from a very particular vantage point. With a background in content and media production. I write and create about the places I go, the food I find, and the experiences that make travel feel like more than a holiday. You'll find me in Bordeaux wine bars, on Albanian coastlines, in English market towns, and at restaurant tables taking notes between courses. The name "Ekomiami", "Lagos to Miami" has always been about movement, ambition, and showing up somewhere new. Seven years in, I'm stepping out from behind it. Welcome to the journey, properly.
